Kicking off CaPao
Hooray! CaPao is ‘kicking off’ our first introduction to consumers via an exciting and, yes, unconventional Kickstarter campaign. We are so excited!!!
So we thought we’d use our first blog to explain what CaPao is, what we are trying to do and what your backing really means.
Ok, first, what is CaPao? Interestingly, CaPao is a brand in the making. What that means is that we’ve developed a really cool, delicious, plant-powered snack idea that we believe will be a game changer for snackers seeking to do good for their bodies while also being kind to the planet.
That’s because CaPao is made with the nutritionally powerful, yet untapped cacao fruit. Cacao is that “wonderpod” used to make chocolate, but it’s so, so much more. The husk, pulp and butter actually contain important nutrients our bodies need – but those parts of the fruit actually aren’t even used to make food (crazy, right?)! Well, we’ve rescued and re-imaged those parts of the fruit that, we hope, will become a global obsession.
5 things about cacao fruit you likely don’t know:
The top cacao production countries are all located within 20 degrees of the equator including: Ivory Coast, Indonesia, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Brazil, Ecuador and Mexico.
The cacao trees grows to be about 30 feet tall and takes 5 years to product its first fruit (the pod!)
Cacao is chock full of nutrients, vitamins and minerals our bodies need – magnesium, iron, potassium and fiber
The pulp of the cacao fruit (which surrounds the beans) has a distinct lemon-flavored mango flavor
The cacao husk can actually be transformed into sustainable packaging
Second, what are we trying to do? Simply put – we want to better understand what wellness seekers like you think about the CaPao concept, and help us choose which of the four unique product options you’d like us to make and sell first. We chose Kickstarter as the way to do get these learnings because it’s a great way to crowdsource real input from real people who care the most about eat well, rescuing wasted food and sharing great ideas and information with others.
Which leads to the third question – what does your backing really mean? Your backing means you want to be part of the journey of bringing more cacao fruit to the world to deliver more nutrition, decrease waste and improve the livelihoods of farming communities (read more here). It also means you’ll be one of the select few CaPao VIPs who not only can say you helped shape the journey of this brand, but you get first access to the product when it launches and much, much more (we’d love ideas on what you’d like in return, too!)
So, that’s our spiel. We hope it makes sense. And more importantly, we hope you join and become a longstanding member of the CaPao community. It’s going to be fun and wild ride you don’t want to miss.
